Former Bangladesh ODI International (One Day) Cricket captain Tamim Iqbal has been taken to the hospital after suffering a heart attack on the field during a domestic match.
Tamim, 36, was heading the Mahmudan Sporting Club in the 50 -over Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match on Monday.
He participated in the toss but later complained of chest pain. After initial treatment in the field, he was taken to a nearby hospital.
“He suffered from a heart attack,” said Debashis Chaudhry, a Medical Officer of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Tariq Islam, an official of the team, told AFP that Tamim was being treated at a saver hospital on the outskirts of Dhaka and requested people to pray for his early recovery.
The BCB called his scheduled board meeting for the day after Tamim’s sudden illness, several members of the board were going to the hospital to meet him.
Timim represented Bangladesh in 391 matches in the formats between 2007 and 2023.
There are more than 15,000 international runs below their belt and is the only Bangladeshi batsman who scored centuries in all three international formats.
