Sources told ESPN that former Hizan Trophy winner and first round NBA Draft Chen Charlie Ward are ready to become a men’s basketball coach at Florida A&M.
Sources said the ward is finalizing an agreement to become coach of the retail. The school board has a meeting for ET at 3pm on Wednesday, when there is an agenda item to approve the men’s new basketball coach contract.
Ward, 54, was the winner of the Hazman Trophy in Florida State in 1993 and played in the NBA from 1994 to 2005. He played primarily for New York Nix, but he ended his career by playing for both San Antonio Springs and Houston rockets.
Ward Basketball brings a diverse resomency of coaching experience. He was assistant coach with a rocket for two season in 2005-06 and 2006-07 and a high school head coach in Tallasi and a high school head coach with USA basketball.
He becomes the highest coach in the HBCU men’s program in the country, as he joins Jackson State Coach, Movilles, as former NBA players coach the first division in HBCU.
The ward took a difficult task, as the Florida A&M has not reached the NCAA tournament since 2007 and appeared in three tournaments in school history.
Femo coach went to 14-17 in the last season under Patrick Kerry, who left after a year. The last winning season of the school came in its NCAA tournament season of 2006-07. Five coaches have worked there without finding a way to get the winning record.
The ward will provide a shock to the program, as it is the biggest name in the school -based school -based school -based school with his game and coaching career.
