The MLS Club announced on Friday that LAFC head coach Steve Cherindolo would retire from his role at the end of the 2025 season.
In a statement, the hometown of San Diego indicated that family reservations would see him and his family back to Germany, where he performed well as a player with Hanor 96. It was with the club when he met his wife, Mandi, and where his two children were born.
“It is an honor to be the head coach of the LAFC,” Cherindulo Said. “After a lot of reflection and conversation with our family, we decided that we would return to Germany later this year.
“I love Los Angeles and LAFC, but this move is in the best interest of my family, even eventually we will take us away from the foundation of a team, city, organization and fans that I am proud to represent.
Cherindulo, 46, has been in charge of the LAFC for four seasons, and was previously associated with the team in Las Vegas.
During the charge of the charge, the LAFC won a supporters shield and the MLS Cup double in 2022, as well as won the US Open Cup title in 2024. In addition to these three trophies, he made the LAFC to three other cups of finals, and has a record of 87-43-26 (WLT) in all competitions.
“Steve has been a tremendous leader for the LAFC and has proved to be a top coach in our league,” said John Thorington, co -president and general manager of the LAFC. “What he has achieved in his time speaks himself, and we are very grateful for his constant dedication and hard work.
“We support their decision to focus on its families with this move at the end of the season. In the rest of 2025, our goals have not changed. We are committed to win the trophies this season. We believe that we have no good to do this, and no one to do this.
Chiranlando has more than 400 exhibitions for Hanor, as well as 87 exhibitions with the American Men’s national team, including making a roster for the 2002, 2006 and 2010 World Cup.
After retirement, he managed Hanor’s U15 and U17 teams, and later served as Assistant Coach with VFB Stuttgart and Germany U15s.
When Cherindulo returned to the United States in 2021, he told the ESPN how difficult it was to leave friends and family in Germany.
“It has been a very emotional time, mixed emotions,” he said. “Here is a reaction to many of my friends and family (in Germany). On the one hand, they are very excited and happy for us, and for our children for this adventure.
“On the other hand, they look at us, and I have to say that this is a good detail for myself and my emotions.”
Now Cherindulo and his family will have the opportunity to re -establish these contacts. Given its administrative management, it will also have plenty of opportunities on the coaching front.
