Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced umpires and match officials for the Women’s Cricket World Cup qualifier in Pakistan from April 9 to April 19.
The six teams tournament will determine the two teams that will qualify for this year’s ICC Women’s World Cup.
The offering panel consisted of 10 umpires and three match referees, with the host nation, Pakistan, represented by Faisal Khan Afridi and Silima Imtiaz.
In particular, Salima made history as Pakistan’s first woman to join the ICC’s umpiring panel last year. At that time, he hoped to affect a new generation of umpires in Pakistan.
Salima said, “This is not just a victory for me. It is a victory for every aspiring female cricketer and umpire in Pakistan.”
“I hope my success will encourage countless women who dream of making their own identity in the game,” he added.
In addition to Faisal and Salima, two umpires from Zimbabwe’s Sara Dambanwana will also be presented along with two umpires like Bangladesh, Masoodor Rehman Makul and Shatira Jakir.
The panel will also include South African Donovian coach and Babs Gakoma, the West Indies Candies Law Board, Sri Lanka’s Dedono de Silva, and Sean Heg from New Zealand.
The appointed match referees include Ali Naqvi (Pakistan), Shandre Furts (South Africa), and Tri Anderson (New Zealand).
ICC senior manager for umpires and referees, Sean Ajay, emphasized that the tournament offers a great opportunity for officials to showcase their credentials.
“This is an interesting opportunity for our appointed match officials, who oversees this important tournament, which is the last step for the World Cup path.”
“Our officials are experienced and well prepared, and we look forward to participating in the program,” he added.
